Eunice C Lee

August 10, 2021: The U.S. Senate has confirmed Eunice Lee to serve as a federal judge on the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. She becomes only the second Black woman to sit on the 2nd Circuit and the only former public defender among 2nd Circuit’s current judges. Lee received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Ohio State University in 1993 and her Juris Doctor from Yale Law School in 1996. She began her legal career as a law clerk for Judge Susan Dlott on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio from 1996 to 1997, and Judge Eric Clay on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit from 1997 to 1998. From 1998 to 2019 she worked with the Office of the Appellate Defender in New York City. Lee has been a public defender with the Federal Defenders of New York Inc since 2019. The confirmation of Lee by a 50-47 vote fills the seat vacated when Judge Robert Katzmann took senior status earlier this year.
