He led a 60,000-person workforce overseeing security at 450+ airports, the Federal Air Marshal Service, and shared security across highways, railroads, ports, and pipelines, transforming TSA into a risk-based, intelligence-driven counterterrorism agency and championing the expansion of risk-based screening programs including TSA PreCheck.

His career spanned organized crime, white-collar crime, civil rights, and international law enforcement training at the International Law Enforcement Academy in Budapest. Following the September 11 attacks, he led the FBI's counterterrorism program and served as Executive Assistant Director for National Security, shaping terrorism policy across the Bush and Obama administrations. He is a recipient of the 2005 Presidential Rank Award for Distinguished Executive and the 2007 Edward H. Levi Award for Outstanding Professionalism and Exemplary Integrity.
Mr. Pistole holds a BA from Anderson University and a JD from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law.
