Jake Ellzey

July 29, 2021: Republican John Ellzey is the winner of the special election for the open U.S. Congressional seat in the 6th District of Texas. Ellzey has served in the Texas House of Representatives since January 2021 after winning the election for the state’s 10th District last November. Ellzey is a Texas native and Navy veteran. He served as a social aide in the White House during the Bush Administration, and was a member of the Texas Veterans Commission from 2012 to 2018. Ellzey previously ran for U.S. Congress in 2018 but lost the Republican primary to Ron Wright, who was elected twice and served until his death in February. Wright’s widow, Susan, finished second in the runoff against Ellzey. The special election received national attention as Wright won the endorsement of former President Donald Trump, while Ellzey was endorsed by former Texas Governor Rick Perry and Texas Congressman and fellow Navy vet Dan Crenshaw.
